Suddenly chooks laying in the bushes!?

Hi All
My 4 x 2 yo free range shavers have kindly provided us 4 eggs per day consistently.
Noticed the egg production started tapering off about 3 weeks ago and then nothing.
I found a clutch under a bush today.
Why have they stopped laying in their boxes?
They still sleep in their coop but have decided to to go elsewhere to lay.
Only thing I can think of is we do have possums around.
Maybe they have had a nighttime confrontation and don't feel safe laying in their coop.
Any ideas?

Could it maybe be a mite infestation in their coop? They could be being bitten when in the coop and not want to go back in there during the day to lay. At night they may have nowhere else to go and so have to return in there. So perhaps check and treat the coop.

I would think that, as you say, it must be something particular that is making them feel unsafe/uneasy in there.
