I am moving to a new property in paerata. The owner has 7 acres of land and keeps 2 horses and 3 cows . I am moving there and wanted to know how many chickens I can keep as I want to have lots of eggs for my restaurant. How do I find if the property is rural or urban? I heard you can keep up to 99 chickens without consent . Correct me if I am wrong . I love this property . It’s huge and I want to make good use of it . Thanks again

Hi and welcome to PC.

If the property is rural you can keep 99 laying hens plus replacements - which means that young birds intended to replace older birds don't count for this purpose.

Some properties have covenants which are listed on the title I believe. Zoning can be looked up on council records. Maybe this link helps? ... report.pdf
