Re: Interesting colour of Orpington chick

An update photo of this chick. The speckling is still there but feathers are always changing - wonder whether they will stay speckly or disappear?
Fun to speculate!

Re: Partridge update!

We only have 2 adult female turkeys now - have just sold 5 baby turkeys. They all look at each other through the wire netting of the partridge cage and seem to get along fine. The partridges are about the size of a 2 month old chick at the moment- maybe the same as a large quail? They are about 2.5 ...

Re: Interesting colour of Orpington chick

This one was actually a stargazer chick in its first days of life - now totally a normal cheeky little boy!

Will post further photos later............

Re: UDATE ON SILKIE.Help please.....my silkie is waving her

I just use normal multivitamins - open a capsule and mix with water. Stargazers heads go up and around and back and they fall over backwards. The last one I treated only took a day or two to come right and is normal now. Would be great if this worked for your girl.

Re: Help please.....my silkie is waving her head

Try giving her some vitamins in water. I do this with stargazer chicks which have a vitamin deficiency and it usually works. No guarantees but it might work.

Re: Interesting colour of Orpington chick

I only have 2 adult turkeys, both females so I think that possibility is out, though it would have been interesting to have had that combination!

I do have one dark brown hen that has been laying.

I will post another photo of this chick when the colours get more defined.

Re: Hi from Coatesville

Hi danimacu from another Coatesvillian! I find the best place for chook food is Falloons in Dairy Flat, rather than RD1. Have you tried them? A huge range of feeds. I carry on feeding my chick starter feed after the six weeks sometimes or Chook Chow for all - the pieces are still quite small. Also w...

Re: Interesting colour of Orpington chick

No I still only have Orpingtons (and a few turkeys but I don't think they are involved!!).

Funny how some strange patterns emerge sometimes...........

Interesting colour of Orpington chick

One of the last lot of Orpington chicks I hatched. It was probably a product of my gold laced rooster, now gone to a new home with Lakeview Poultry. The wings seem to have lines of different colours. I love seeing how the chicks colours develop and how they turn out can be nothing like they start! T...

Re: My partridges

This is the 3rd time I have hatched partridges but the only time I have kept them - have normally sold them as chicks. I was getting tired of just doing chickens - and Orpingtons getting very common now. The partridge is a game bird and people normally release them for shooting enthusiasts. I bought...

My partridges

Thought nobody is putting on much here at the moment so I will! Just a photo of my 6 red legged partridges I hatched in November.
Hard to hatch and raise to this point so I am enjoying them now.

Re: Feathers galore. My silkie is moulting and the sparrows

I have feathers everywhere too! About 3 hens with bare backs as well though that's probably due to the boys. Some of the girls tails are thinning every day too.
Moulting times seem to be any time now!
