Re: My first chicks this season
I've had several gold/buff roosters lately so I think that one will be a goldy colour - but who knows! Also could turn out to be a gold laced as I've had a few of those lately.

Slipped tendon in chicks
I have what I think is the slipped tendon situation in 2 of my current batch of chicks, hatched yesterday. I have tried the methods suggested to fix this (stretching the leg out and rolling the hock joint between the fingers) but have never had any luck so far. Any suggestions from anyone who has su...

My first chicks this season
I had 19 growing eggs from 20 of my own Orpington eggs. I've had 17 hatch, 15 good ones and 2 with hock issues (which I've never been able to fix). Here's a photo of the variety of colours I'm getting lately! Goodness knows where the white one came from ......... http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/...

Partridge breeding
I am trying to encourage my 6 red-legged partridges to breed! It's now Spring and I haven't seen any signs of mating behaviour yet. I have created hiding places for them under lots of vegetation which they are supposed to like but no luck yet. Has anyone had experience with breeding partridges on he...

Re: My incubator's going too!
Hi Foehn. RCom incubators are pretty good. Yes 37.5 seems to be the widely accepted as the norm for the first 18 days. Then this incubator is programmed to drop to 37C for the last 3 days, but some people don't do that. I can still change any of the set temps or humidity if I want to though. I think...

Re: My incubator's going too!
eae hatch day is the 25th of September. Will have to candle one more time before then to see how they're doing.
Have you replaced your lost chooks now, and did you find any more?

My incubator's going too!
I loaded 20 of my own Orpington eggs into the incubator recently - excited about having chicks again! After 7 days I candled them and 19 are growing! Very pleased with that result for the first lot of eggs. I just hope they all carry on and hatch - and not too many boys! http://i1167.photobucket.com...

Re: Gold laced Orpingtons
Yes I am wolga. I am keeping that boy but I have sold the other laced boy. When I come back from overseas I'll have to make another pen for that purpose and try hatching out some of the buffs eggs - hopefully will get some more laced including some hens this time. The buff hen is the key to the oper...

Re: Gold laced Orpingtons
An up to date photo of my most laced boy - the lacing seems to go underneath as well as he gets older. Unfortunately he is getting very hormonal now and "on guard" when I am around him - seems to be protecting the other roos as well! Hope he isn't going to get nasty........ http://i1167.ph...
Re: Sad
Yes I think that too - there might have been a car where the trail ended. Horrible people........
Re: Sad
Very sorry to hear eae. I would be devastated if it happened to mine. I just hope they weren't left half alive somewhere.
Crossing fingers some will return to you.

Re: Anyone raised partridges before?
Don't like to think about that AlisonS! Though I know they are eaten overseas as game birds. Selling them is preferable for me! They make quite a lot of different noises sewren - quite fascinating. When I feed them they all make a sort of contented chattering noise. Definitely not as noisy as my roo...
