12 week old Black Orpingtons

Postby veegee » Tue Jan 08, 2019 10:28 am

Hi
Have 4 black orps I raised from incubation (first time). Cannot for the life of me tell even now what I have. Can anyone tell by these pics what sex they are? 12 weeks old today.
Thank you.

Hmm - they all look the same and their combs are pretty big. I can't see the head of one of them clearly and in one picture the head is cut off. You definitely have at least 2 cockerels and if the other 2 have combs and wattles of similar size you have 4 males I'm afraid. Where in NZ are you? And welcome to PC!

Thank you -I thought maybe I had one pullet as she feathered up way before the other 3, but now they all look the same. I am in the Rai Valley area, thanks for the welcome. :D

If one of them feathered up earlier then she's likely to be a pullet. They go through growth spurts - males and females at different times. Both genders look the same at times - Orpingtons very difficult to sex at certain ages.
