Sand from a child's sandpit

Postby panda007 » Sun Jul 02, 2017 11:06 am

Hi - we're looking at setting up a small backyard coop as first time chook owners. Our backyard has an inbuilt child's sandpit, would this be ok to use as a dust-bath for the chooks, or would it need to have something else added to it, eg dirt?
Thanks

Just sand - it's fully covered at the moment and is clean

That's one of the best bases for a dust bath for hens. They'll add poo over time and you might add some scraps and weeds from your garden which all adds to the mix.
