at Keri Keri.beautiful looking rooster. He has just done his cock a doodle do,waited till 7.00am.
Hopefully we have one big happy family.

I have just gotten a young rooster.Very shy right now.
Have been offered another one that is hanging out at a business.
All by himself.
We have plenty of room for our chooks,1 acre.Free range with 2 chook houses.
How do you think they would get on.
As they are hard to find homes for I don't want to end up trying to find another place for him if
it doesn't work out with my hens.
Thanks.

They should be fine once they've established who's the boss.

hoping that's the case if I get him.
This other one is a really big chap.
Looks nice too.Mostly white with colourful tail feathers and from the neck down about 5-6 cms nice colouring like a
cloak.I am hoping if I do get him we don't have to chase him round too much.
I have a net,but as we know they are quite fast.
The new boy is at the moment sitting with the girls and they don't seem to to mind him.
I have called him George after George Clark the pommy architect on tv.
My Polish girl is called Katy Perry.....don't laugh.
If I get him will let whoever know how they get on.
Thanks for any info. :)

Sounds like he's a good looking boy. Take some pictures and show them to us.
I have several roosters running together and it's no trouble at all. They will live
quite happily together as long as they have enough room.

Will do.Hopefully we can catch him.I have a net,it should be fun...ha ha....
The other newbie has been sitting with the girls today. They seemed to get on quite well.
At least he hasn't tried anything yet.Must be a gentleman.
It is teaming down at Kaitaia at the moment so are hoping this other one will be sheltering out
of the rain.Make him easier to get tomorrow. :D

Sad.Went to pick up the rooster and they had changed their minds and are going to keep him.
Hopefully he will be looked after as they don't seem to know much about chooks.
I am going to have to look for another one up here as I had my heart set on this one,
and are going to Whangarei on Monday where I see a couple are in Trademe...
Wish me luck. :D

I, too, keep several roosters, but most of them can only see the hens. If a rooster has access to hens not many show their gentlemanly side. Most go ahead and rape as many hens as they can get at - repeatedly each and every day. Over time this does quite a bit of damage to the hens' backs and sometimes a hen ends up with deep cuts in her back from the rooster's inside toe (when he tries to balance on her backs.

With light breeds this is not that much of a problem but a heavy breed rooster can mate his hens to death - unless, of course, he's a gentleman and only mates with them when they crouch for him.

Unless you have more than two dozen hens there is no need for a second rooster to keep them looked after. While roosters are beautiful creatures it's not only their fighting that keeps most people from accommodating more than 1.

Thanks for that Marina.
I have decided to get a pair, male and female.I have my eye on them in Trademe in Kerikeri.
After looking at some pictures of roosters on computer the one I was going to get looks similar to a Sussex one.
Apart from a bit less colour around the neck he looked like that. Was a very big one.
We are going to Whangarei tomorrow so I will see...... :D
