Help! I forgot to move eggs to hatching tray

Postby PJJ » Sat Oct 22, 2016 6:01 pm

My first chick has just hatched in the incubator (Janoel 12) and I've just realised I forgot to move eggs from incubation tray to the hatching tray on day 18. Should I just leave it now? Has anyone got some advice please? Thank you

If the incubation tray has anything that new chicks can get caught up in, or the turner is unable to be turned off, then by all means move them. If they are standing on end then probably best to leave them as they will have positioned themselves for pipping.
I do have some doubts about hatching trays as it is. I find that the eggs get rolled around by the chicks that have hatched, and that doesn't happen under a hen. I've been experimenting with some cut down egg cartons in mine to keep them still when hatching, and that seems successful so far.

You might just need to top up your water to make sure the humidity rises again after opening the incubator.
