First Chicks of the Season

Postby seatil » Thu Aug 20, 2015 4:03 pm

It's that time of year again! Pictures of cute chicks abound.

This lot is from a bantam hen I was looking after for a friend. She went broody while we weren't paying attention. These are all her chicks (yay for unique green bantam eggs). Fathers could be bantam or full sized (poor girl!)

Woohoo, very cute :) :)

We had planned to hatch some salmon faverolles this season, but it looks like we're going to be moving house instead. Perhaps we might get a batch in closer toward Christmas, if I can get eggs that is.

Ducklings with pointy beaks! An odd deformity that one.

Only yesterday I did a double take when I got 6 eggs from 5 ducks. Until I paid closer attention and noticed that one egg was actually a chook egg.

the pointy beaked 'ducklings' don't have webbed feet either!

they're making good broody trainers though - I've left them in there & they're showing each successive little batch of ducklings where to find the food & water - the ducklings get upset when the leghorns fly up & sit on top of the little box
