Hi from Lower Hutt

Postby KiwiSue49 » Mon Oct 29, 2018 2:03 pm

Hi everybody, thought I had submitted my post, but can't find it :(

Anyways, am brand new to chickens (much reading and You Tubing
on and off since January).
Brought two home on Saturday.(originally ex-battery.
but have been free-ranging elsewhere for a little bit)

They are in a kit-set coop with the pull out metal tray.
Their first time today free-ranging at my place -
with me chicken-sitting them as cat was close by (watching intently).

One already had a name (Lulu), and other my daughters workmates
named Matilda (Tilly for short).

Had my second and third eggs layed today :)

Have a couple of specific questions so will go find the right forum to post.

Good to be here.
Have copy pasted above just in case :)

Hi sue welcome to the forum. Are your ex battery hens your first and only hens. Did you get the ex battery hens because you like the idea of saving them. They can be a good introduction to chicken keeping, but sadly the best of their egg laying days are over. I am not trying to be negative, but do you know how old your girls are . Hopefully for you they will be around long enough for you to know how much you enjoy the chicken keeping thing. Losing your birds when you have become really close to them is not always easy. Unfortunately the commercial hybrids are not that receptive to new arrivals, anyway welcome to the forum and all the best with your chicken keeping adventure, I hope you really enjoy the experience
