Hello. I have just joined up as I am a keeper of a flock of North Holland Blues that I have been breeding for a number of years. I am not really interested in showing or anything of that nature, just like the birds=they are great "duel purpose". I am hoping to meet up with other breeders in my area {Southland} so as to keep my breeding program going. I have, in the past, been given a rooster who must have had some Dorking or some such, in his breeding, as I do get a brown {or white if male} chick now and again, but have been working hard at trying to breed away from this=buying in eggs from Whangarei was my last move...I know am more interested in buying in roosters. would love to get back to a more "southern" line.

Hi Bobby and welcome to PC.

That's great news that you still have an original strain of North Holland blues. We consider them to be a very rare breed. Have you got pictures of your birds?

I have seen them Marina, I was lucky enough to be allowed to keep my birds there for the last twelve months that I was in Southland, and I am really grateful to have been allowed to do so. I am more than happy to say that there is a nice line of genuine north Holland blue down there . And a good number of them also.

Hi Bobby,

posting photos on this site is not straight forward. You'd have to upload them to a photo hosting site like Flickr or Photobucket and then post a link in form of a URL. These sites used to be free but no longer are (at least not Photobucket) and as a result fewer and fewer people post photos.

I'd really like to see your contact details on the Rare Breeds Directory if you are willing to sell eggs: http://www.rarebreeds.co.nz/directorye.html#chooks

If you send me a couple of photos by email (Marina.Steinke(at)gmail.com please replace (at) with @ I'd like to post them on the society's facebook page.

NHB - the same applies to you - we need breeders of this very rare breed on the directory.
