Eggs to eggs

Postby EggGirl44 » Tue Apr 08, 2014 11:41 pm

Finally my owning chickens dream has started. 12 eggs in the incubator. Brooder box made. Coop designed and being built ( yah for super handy Dads). A long way to collecting eggs but much excitement in the house tonight when we candled the eggs to see 5 definite growers. I am way worse than the children with the waiting and worrying about my new 'babies'

Hi EggGirl - congratulations on starting your chook-journey, you have so many milestones ahead and you're going to love them all :) And I think we all know how you feel about the worrying - 21 days can seem like an age when you're waiting for eggs to hatch!!

What breed of chicken are you hatching...?

Hi EggGirl, how exciting ! It's quite magical hatching your own chicks.
Fertility can be a bit low this time of the year. Nice that you have at least
5 good ones.

There are silkies, Orpington and araucana eggs. I knew it wasn't the best time of year but was all ready and too excited to wait. I have a Childcare centre at my home so it will be awesome learning for the preschoolers too. Even if one chick makes this hatch it will be great. Fingers crossed.

We are now day 8 of incubation. 8 of the eggs have growing chicks at this stage, 1 was cracked and 2 in blue shells I am unsure about. Check out this little video, this little chick is a dancer!

Very cool video ! Araucana eggs can be a bit difficult to candle. You just have to wait and see. ;)
