2014 National Show. Palmerston Nth, hosted by Manawatu Club

Postby buzzard » Thu Apr 17, 2014 8:10 pm

Is fast approaching, 7th-8th June. Barber Hall, Waldegrave st, Palmerston Nth
My schedule arrived in the mail today, so if you are serious about showing there, and aren't on their mailing list (shown @ Manawatu before) contact the show secretary Ron Pratt, 06 357 1268 for a copy to be sent to you.

Or if you just want to go for a look, the opening times are 2-6pm Sat. 7th and 9.30am-3pm Sun 8th

I have a lot of time for the Manawatu club, they know how to put on a good show, and this one wont be any different.

best bird in show was won by WPPC member Chris Dale with his large OEG fowl blue golden duckwing Cock.. anyone that's been to any NI shows in the last couple years would recognise the bird (don't think hes been beaten in his section)
Chris also took out best game bantam, with a wheaton OEG female
best soft feather Heavy was won by a really tidy Australorp pullet, best opposite sex was taken by a big black orp ckl (he was reserve champ at Taranaki too)
Wayne Dodd took out best opp sex light breed with a cracking white leghorn ckl
champion light breed was a white silkie hen from the SI

heaps of others that were stonking good birds -too many to list,
PC members did well, with some lovely chooks, Lakeview, 99 Chooks, Cyd and spotted a tidy leghorn hen that was shown (I am assuming) by Roobz, she was a good bird that was not overcooked (as some leghorn hens can get with age)
PC member Sandra also introduced herself to me, which was nice to meet her too

but the one that stopped me in my tracks was a pile LF mod that was up from the SI, love how the nationals can bring out those sorts out of the woodwork

a great show and credit to the Manawatu Club for putting on a fine nationals

Shame I didn't bump into you Buzzard, I was there for most of the time. You also did well with your Barnies also, my mother was quite taken by the hen. I have some pics I will post when I get the chance. Ian Selby told me my Leghorns looked nice but unfortunatley have slight bent breastbones, good to know all these things and as this show was just about learning how it all works was happy to get as much feedback as I could. Got to meet a few other breeders from the club who are willing to help me out so maybe next year will have better results. Congrats to 99 chooks I can see why that blue girl has been winning everything this year. Better head off and help finish cleaning up the hall now

I thoroughly enjoyed the show it was fantastic. I must admit I was quite taken with all of the pigeons, I had no idea there were so many different types! The noise coming from the ducks and cockerels was incredible. A great event.

thanks Roobz, to be honest I am not that happy with the Barnies, but respectable enough all things considered

was most pleased with the Fawn and White runners, taking best of Variety and one young duck going as high as champ opp sex of breed (beating out a fair bench of white females - from both islands)

good to read that youre getting involved with the Manawatu club, theres a lot of good people involved there, and you will really benefit.

there are some pics of the better results of Waikato club members on the club homepage

Lakeview, 99 & I were there Sunday from 11-debenching, would have been good to put a face to the name, you'll have to come up to Waikato, but there's a real grumpy sod judging the light breeds there
