All over her body.can anyone tell me what they are please? They show up really well on the white feathers.
I have run out of Pestene, and have been told it can't be bought anymore.I grabbed my dog flea powder and it
seemed to kill a few of them.
What are they though......They look like little wee spots.
thanks. :?

I found red mites living on our black silkies on the weekend - they had some poop stuck in their bum feathers & they'd colonised in there
when I broken open the hard dry lumps to break them off, the mites came out in droves!!!

so it could be that
I've never seen mites living on my Pekin bantams - but they were definitely on the Silkies (harder to see on the black ones, but easy to spot when they started crawling up my arms :o )

flea powder/permethrin with slow them down, should kill them
if they're just around the butt, I'd even try fly spray - first time I used fly spray on an infested coup, they keeled over really quickly, but in the last few years its not been so effective

they drown quite well, if you were tempted to bath the birds
but you'll also need to treat the house - I had treated the house & was surprised to find them on the birds, but maybe that's why, the house wasn't safe for the mites, so they just hung onto the birds?

They are all over her body...I didn't see them until she went out for a dust bath this afternoon, and they showed up then.
I will go and see if the flea powder got rid of many of them. They were just running around everywhere.
I just had a look.a lot of them are dead, but still a few moving around.I put her on the washing machine,(white),and they
showed up well.I want to give her a bath tomorrow,1st time, but she is pretty docile. So keep your fingers crossed for me.
If they have legs they are so small I can't see any.they are black. :o

if they're red mites, they look black because they're full of blood, you can try popping some

if they're all over, sounds like she's walked through an infested area & they've all hopped aboard - go back to the house & touch your hand in there & see if it comes back with loads of crawlies :?

I hate them, sitting here scratching, at my desk, just thinking about them!!

Yuk! They are awful all right. It is getting into their favourite time of year - warm and a bit muggy and plenty of sitting hens to colonise. Must go and check everybody... starting to feel itchy myself.
